If you really want to understand a company, you need to read through the quarterly reports and listen to the quarterly conference calls. This can be very time consuming. So before you make this investment of your time and energy, I find the presentations that executives make at investment conferences to be very informative. You can go through the powerpoint presentation in around 10 minutes. It is a good way to get a quick overview of the company. Then, if you like what you see, you can go ... (more) |

ACON,
I am trying to learn to invest and figured practicing would be a great tool for me. My problem is when it comes to numbers, and money lingo (finance, dividend, APY) it is way over my head and I get so lost. I am looking for someone(s) who would be able to break this down for my barney style. Just so I can learn the basics. I am looking at other places online, talking to people, and reading books, but like I said it is way over my head.
Thank you for your time and your pat ... (more) |

I wrote a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet program which calculates some GE stock price statistics. The program calculates and displays data pertaining to the rate of return of simulated random stock purchases of GE stock as a function of the length of time the stock is held. The program uses data for GE stock prices for the period from 1962 to 2007 obtained from Yahoo! Finance. With all the money printing that the government is doing, I have done alot of research lately into the precious metals and mining sector. Gold and silver have been making some big gains recently. Many "goldbugs" think the price of both is going a lot higher.
Check out the site, and please provide comments and feedback. Thanks. |

Looks like people ask this a lot, sorry if this is annoying, but I'm new and would like to learn the very basics. I'd like to have a go at day trading/penny stocks? I would like to learn how to spot patterns for example. Do you record the +/- on a certain stock every 6 hours for example? I made a guess and bought some just to test it out but I think it said it only updates once a day or something, so is practicing day trading even possible?
Any advice or link to the very basics ... (more) |

I'm looking at getting more into microcredit/microfinance operations, and I'm wondering if anyone knows any good books on the subject. If you're not familiar with the concept, the extremely basic version is loaning money/resources to entrepreneurs in developing areas so they can start/invest in businesses and therefore develop their areas. If you're interested, the wikpedia article has more information. Thanks! |

I'm obviously new to t10t so I'm a little confused on a few things. I can teach myself everything else but what I really need to know is why can't I get shares ending in .L? When I tried to get a few shares from GlaxoSmithKline and Astrazenaca, it wouldn't let me because they said that they no longer supported stocks ending in .L..
At first I thought it had something to do with what the companies were based off of..but I was able to buy shares from Sinovac..so I was pretty confused.
